Tile and stone have great potential to enrich, enhance and envelop spaces through good design. The Coverings show provides great access to both product and expertise, celebrating their resilience and time honored tradition. Coverings2016 is also a significant learning resource. Opportunities for expanding knowledge and continuing education units (CEUs) abound through seminars and presentations on a diverse range of topics, from home decor to interior design, from installations to sustainability, and from 3D modeling using tools like SketchUp or Vectorworks. Specific learning tracks provide resources examining Master Spec language for qualified labor, helping us to communicate and ensure our pool of installers are knowledgeable and experienced and that they can meet and exceed the standards and criteria we specify ensuring high quality projects.

We plan to spend a day or two Coverings to take in the seminars and grab CEUs. We are particularly excited to interface with the show’s Rock Star emerging leaders and local universities such as the School of the Art Institute of Chicago students who have developed a tiled bench exhibit. As is the norm these days, social media is ever-present. Coverings even has a Social Media lounge, Booth 4031, where visitors can meet face to face while taking time to post about all the cool products and accessories they’ve discovered. We are already primed to visit and tweet about @CeramicsOfItaly, @TileOfSpain, @Laticrete, @Mapei, @crossvilleinc, @SchluterSystems, @FlorimUSA, and many more who have given us advanced notice about new product launches.

Materiality has always played a big role in the functionality, sustainability and aesthetic of the public and private spaces and projects created by Architecture Is Fun – for home, for culture and for play. This year, we were honored to be asked to design one of the Coverings'16 Design Showcase Vignettes. For the first days of the show, these four vignettes allow attendees to observe the installation process. Like our fellow designers, Alenda Capra, FGM Architects, Susan Elnaggar, we’re thrilled that our Florim USA, Grazzini Brothers, Mapei vignette is underway!

So stroll the nine miles. #Coverings2016 will be well worth it.
